DIY: Plywood Flooring in Kids Rooms

The flooring in this room believe it or not is made of plywood sheets! Plywood was cut into strips to look like planks. The plywood floor looks fabulous and was done for cheap!!! I just love this idea!! This is such a great inexpensive project for a playroom or kids room. The plywood can also be painted for a fun colorful look. Shannon (and her hubby) of Quarry Orchard created this inexpensive yet terrific looking flooring.  Here's the lowdown according to Shannon...


Materials:
16 sheets of 15/32 pine plywood @ $16.49 per sheet
9 gigantic tubes of Liquid Nail @ $4.75 each
10 lbs of cut nails (ordered from Tremont Nail Company) @ $69.63 (includes s&h)
4 gallons of Varathane polyurethane @ $37.46 per gallon
2 quarts of stain @ $9.99 each

Square footage of the room: 533
Rough estimate of cost: $520

We started the project with sheets of plywood. We ripped them on the table saw into 6 inch strips that were all 8 feet long. Then, we Dustin carried all of this up to the house so it could sit and “acclimate” to the room. I don’t know if that helped, but that is something that is recommended when laying hardwood flooring.

According to Shannon, the floor isn't rough. Some sanding and the polyurethane sealing has made it  smooth.  An unbelievable project for about $1 a sq foot. Can't find that price for flooring looking this good. Complete DIY instructions turning plywood into plank floors

Painting plywood floors....

The bedroom carpet was removed and the logo (with a vintage look) was painted on plywood sub-flooring. Painted by Amy.

Small Spaces...Great Places!

 A small yet stylish room for a sophisticated kid or teen. Great placement of bed and storage built-ins. The rooms walls are mainly white with one wall a bright vibrant green. A pop of color was painted on the ceiling of the built-in cubby bed. There is also another bed to the top left of the ladder (where the railings are). Room designed by Philpotts Interiors.

Creative Ceiling Ideas For Babies, Kids and Teen Rooms

A colorful painted ceiling

The homeowners created the ceiling fixture by cutting squares out of plywood and painting them with the leftover wall paint. Thin chains are screwed into the ceiling and each panel is hung from the chain.
