Baby Girl's Happy Room!

This whimsical, Asian-inspired nursery exudes happiness. Little Crown Interiors is a Southern-California design firm that specializes in nurseries and children's rooms. Little Crown Interiors describes this adorable room, "The bright aqua blue walls to the colorful stretched canvas artwork, it' s a perfect room for a baby girl to grow up in. The largest wall features a swirly tree wall decal with added butterflies and dragonflies for 3D effect.

Custom textiles are featured throughout the room: there's a custom crib bedding set (which was made to be beautiful and eye-catching, even without a bumper) a custom glider pillow, custom changing pad covers, and a custom toy box cushion and throw pillows. The bright pink nursery rug is ultra soft, and a custom finished wall hook ties in with the beautiful custom painted birdcages which hang from the ceiling."

Safari Mod Nursery

It's hard not to be impressed by the creativity, colors and attention to detail Crystal Peterson has put into creating her son's nursery. Isn't this the cutest nursery??? The quote on the wall above the crib "a bundle of joy is our little boy" was made with vinyl decal lettering. The letter "N" centered between the quote is a clever way to use a large monogram letter. Crystal painted the animal boards green, applied vinyl decals and attached ribbon - creative way to make art for a nursery. Love the bold stripe that is centered on the wall and goes around the entire room. The paint colors: Respite (blue), Leapfrog (green) both from Sherwin Williams. The brown paint is Dark Granite by Olympic. To view more photos of the Safari Mod Nursery click here.

Pinkapple Boutique is the place to purchase the vinyl lettering and animal decals. This fun site has an assortment of projects and wallboards you can personalize. If you want to make some fun crafts, check them out.

DIY: Decor Ideas

Embroidery Handprints: Use a fabric pencil to trace your child's hand onto cotton fabric, and write his or her name and the year underneath. Then stretch the fabric on an embroidery hoop (plain 7- and 8 1/2-inch wooden versions, we painted ours red). Finally, trim the excess fabric and stitch along your pencil lines with a needle and embroidery floss. Found at easydiyathome.com

Bird Mobile How-To
1. Print templates onto heavyweight paper. Cut out shapes with a craft knife. Punch holes where marked.

2. Assemble birds, running white glue along the slits to secure pieces in place. Thread a 6- to 12-inch (depending on how low/high you want your bird to hang) length of embroidery floss through each hole.

3. Cut 12- to 18-inch lengths of 1/8-inch armature wire with wire clippers. Wrap with brown floral tape. Repeat with a couple different lengths of armature wire. Attach 3 to 4 lengths together to form branches.

4. Punch flowers from pink card stock. Punch leaves from green card stock. Punch a hole in the center of each flower and bend petals upwards.

5. Double-knot embroidery floss a quarter inch from one end, then cut 2 inches down from knot, creating a stamen (knot and above) and a stem (below the knot). To stiffen embroidery floss, dip it into glue and run through your fingers to spread glue down floss; let dry.

6. Feed the "stems" through the holes in the center of the petals to create small flowers. Hold a flower upside-down by stem, put a dab of hot glue onto the underside of the hole, and add a leaf. Repeat with all punched flowers.

7. Use floral tape to attach flowers to branches. Tie birds to branches, balancing against each other, to finish mobile. Tie a length of embroidery floss or monofilament to the center of the mobile to hang.

Make Your Own "Scratch-Off" Father's Day Card

Have you ever wondered how to make a scratch off card - kind of like a scratch off lottery ticket? Well - now you can! I've included a free down loadable card for Fathers Day and also instructions on how to make scratch off stickers for the card. I came across the idea and instructions for scratch off stickers from Artmind. Repost : )

Inside of card

Supplies needed:
Silver craft paint – I purchased cheap .59 paint at Michaels Crafts
Dish washing liquid
Clear Contact paper or clear laminating sheet
Fathers Day Card - Download

Mix silver acrylic paint with dish washing liquid – 2 parts paint to 1 part liquid.
I added a drop of black paint to help darken the silver. Paint the clear laminating sheet (or whichever clear sticky paper) with your paint mixture - you might need to paint two coats. Let completely dry.

Cut out five – 2-inch circles from the sheet (I used my cricut machine) and peel off the backing. On the inside of the card, cover each printed circle with the scratch off sticker.

Include a craft stick inside the scratch off card and now it's ready to give to your favorite dad!

This is an easy project that your kids will enjoy making! Of course, you could always give the card as is… but dad will have tons of fun scratching off his fathers day card to reveal the terms of endearment. The possibilities are endless with what you can do with these scratch off stickers!

Click here to down load the front of the fathers day card. Card stock paper is ideal for this card - regular printer paper is to lightweight.

Tips:
I experimented with several types of clear sticky backed plastics i.e.  contact paper, laminating sheet, mailing label and packaging tape. They all worked except the mailing label – that surface was not shiny and the paint wouldn’t scratch off. The packaging tape was easy to use if that’s all you have on hand. To make the tape easier to paint, I taped packaging tape (2 inch wide) onto wax paper and painted the silver paint mixture onto the tape. I had a laminating sheet on hand  so that's what I ended up using.

Owl Inspired Baby Nursery

Interior Designer Belinda Nihill of Nest Design Studio located in Australia made an inspiring room for her little guy. In her words, "Hugh's nursery inspiration began with the tree.  Having not being able to find a tree that was quite right, I hand painted the tree on.  At the time, Owls were only just coming into popularity and was difficult to find accents, so I made most of the Owl items (including wall art & Owls on the tree).  I used a gorgeous dusty blue as a feature wall & added navy & red accents through them room. The room was inexpensive as so many of the items were handmade." Such a fun, simple modern nursery!!
