American Idol Frustration

Sorry...but I have to vent. I recorded American Idol tonight and because someone at Fox doesn't know what 2 hours means - the show went into overtime. For people like me who record American Idol - that means we miss the ending of the show. Yes, it was a positive show helping those in need - I am certainly always for helping others. But, please FOX get your act together. This has happened several times on your show. I'm frustrated because the ending is what I am most interested in. ( :

UPDATE: Thank you for everyone's comments.  I don't have a lot of time when it comes to watching TV and entire shows. So I do fast forward all the commercials and any part that seems boring. For a typical one hour show it takes me about 35 -40 minutes to watch.  So I obviously missed Ryan S. Tuesday night comments about Wednesday night going into overtime. There are shows that are very important to me so I do record the show after it - just in case. I'll have to do this with the finale. I remember when my DVR stopped recording when Ryan announced "the winner of American Idol is ...."  and the show had stopped recording at that very special moment : )
I was extremely happy that AI does give back. That was wonderful to see all the effort and money going to help those in need : ) I just wish AI would have just made it a 2 1/2 hour show. There were a lot of GLEE fans that missed part of their show due to recording AI.

  1. that happens to me all the time too so I just set my dvr to record for 3 minutes after the end of the show and it resolved the issue for me...hope it works for you...

  2. Deidre,
We set our DVR to record 6 minutes after all shows - because of previous shows going into overtime. And of course, usually the best part of the show is the ending. But unfortunately - american idol went way overtime and those 6 minutes didn't help.
Thanks for the comment : )

  5. Toni, you are so right. It wasn't just over by 5 or 10 minutes...but a full half hour! They should have better planning than that.

  7. I was glad Ryan Seacrest actually reminded everyone at the end of Tuesday night's show to set their DVR's accordingly because Idol Gives Back would probably go into overtime. I guess you all must have missed that :)

  8. It was announced several times on Tuesday night that the show would be going quite a bit over schedule. Unfortunately, that doesn't work if you missed Tuesday night's show :( The results sent Tim Urban home...and he left smiling as big as ever with his trade-mark grin!

  9. I always set mine to go 10 minutes overtime with American Idol since two seasons ago when I got, "And the next American Idol issssss.....*BLIP*"

After months of watching and even attending the previous night LIVE in Hollywood (and I live in Utah), I was SO FRUSTRATED! I can totally relate.

I haven't seen last night's episode to see if my 10 minutes were enough or not, but thanks for the heads up that I might have more frustrations to deal with again!

  12. This season it's happened so many times, that we just record the show after American Idol. It's saved us a few times since (last night being one such occasion). Give it a shot...you'll love the fact that you don't have to worry about whether or not you've got the ending.

It is a bit strange that they can't figure out their timing?!?!

  13. I was upset about that as well as the night before they went over so the show after it got messed up... and I love Glee.... they went over by about 5 mintues.... that just makes me mad.... I totally agree with you on the venting.
