Rain Gutter Bookshelves!

Are these bookshelves fabulous or what? This fun, colorful playroom has some really cool bookshelves made out of rain gutters! Image from here. Check out Kimberly's site from Raising Olives for a tutorial on how to make rain gutter shelves. Kimberly is a homeschooling mom with 9 kids:) She gives great instructions - how to make and install your own shelves.

Such a great way to display books for kids! Awesome!

  1. Thanks for the link Toni.

In the comments of my post one of my readers suggested putting them in a bathroom, still thinking about that.

  6. We have these shelves in my preschool classroom. If you're wondering, they hold up great. They have been there for about 5 years and have survived rowdy 3 year olds.

  7. My son's public elementary school believes in displaying their books face out and so they use these in ALL of their classrooms. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it and now I am so happy that I don't have to ask the principal how he did it:)

  21. I saw this idea on Kimberly's blog, along with some other great ideas. This is an awesome way to face books out, without using a floor shelving system, that is very expensive and takes up a lot of space.

    Great idea.

  22. This is an awesome way to showcase the books we have collected over the years. Thanks for the "how to install" info-as I was wondering how to go about that!

  23. Oooh --- The picture with the bunk beds really got me thinking... we don't have space for something like this, or so I thought... but as a shelf for their beds, oh, I love it.

  24. This is such a great idea-- I have wanted to buy a bookshelf that allowed you to show the books more-like in a library-but I never quite could spend that kind of money. Now, I can do it:)Thank you!

  25. I really don't have any more wall space, but I do think this is a great idea! Showing the fronts of the books always intrigues the little ones.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I liked this the first time I noticed it on Kimberly's blog. Overall, this is my favorite design. If we had fewer books we would definitely be doing this. I'm still trying to think of where we have enough wall space not taken up by windows or regular bookcases to use this idea!

    ReplyDelete

    2 bathrooms
    3 bedrooms
    the hall upstairs
    beside my treadmill

Now to convince the hubby we need more gutters in the house than are on the house! LOL.

  159. We love rain gutter book shelves. We have used them for years. They are a blessing to have and easy for little ones to put books away by themselves. They also promote reading because the front of the book is showing and more visually appealing than the spine. ;-)
