Shiver Me Timbers -- It's a Pirate Nursery!

Pirates are known to sing sea chanteys and use strange words like "avast" and "lubber". So when I came across this pirate nursery designed by Wendy Connelly, I thought "WOW" what a totally fun room! The nursery was inspired by the book "How I Became a Pirate." Wendy describes the process of creating the nursery: "I used a woolie tool (found at Home Depot--basically lambs wool attached to a piece of wood) and dipped it half into the light cream paint, and half into the butter yellow paint (at the same time), and then dabbed it on the wall. Very simple. For the ceiling, we painted it solid with the darker color, and then my husband took a brown glaze (Lowe's brand) and lightly brushed it on haphazardly. We taped it off in a horizontal and vertical line, and followed the pieces of tape with a bit more glaze so that it would appear the map on the ceiling had creases. The other paints for the wall are all acrylic craft paints, the cheapest ones they had at Michael's. Fortunately, the local liquor store took pity on my pregnant self and GAVE me the barrel for free, bless them--we just added a round piece of wood painted black for the top." Wendy painted the mural using a projector and her husband added the wainscotting and trim.

The room was completed for under $500. Their favorite part of the room? The Poop Deck! Thanks to Wendy for sharing such an awesome, creative room!
